Evan was born January 25, 1986 at Sabah. His full name is Evan Siau Verhyn. He went to Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School. Evan studied vocal, organ, piano and music theory from the age of 6. Evan was an active member of his school Choir where he participated and performed in competitions all over Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. In 2002, Evan represented Malaysia to attend an “Outstanding Overseas Chinese Students” program in China with others students from all over South-East Asia. A recipient of numerous singing award, he was the president of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School Chinese Orchestra in 2004. In 2005, Evan went to Australia to further his studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre from the University of Tasmania.
